Russia, U.S. sign low-enriched uranium deal to replace HEU-LEU

Russia's Techsnabexport (Tenex), which is controlled by the state atomic energy corporation Rosatom, and the U.S. company USEC have signed a $2.8-billion long-term contract to provide uranium enrichment services for ten years starting from 2013. "This is a large-scale contract that will fill the vacuum to be created by the expiration of the HEU-LEU contract," Rosatom chief Sergei Kiriyenko told journalists after the signing ceremony on March 24.
