Azerbaijan's Environment and Natural Resources Ministry thinks the aluminum plant in Sumqayit is a threat to the city's environment, the ministry's head of Caspian environmental monitoring, Lyatifa Huseinova told reporters on July 14. "In the course of a year, more than 30,000 tonnes of pollutants are dumped into the atmosphere in Sumqayit, and 70 percent of these emissions are from the aluminum plant. The operation of this plant is dangerous for the city's environment," she said.
