VTB REQUESTS CLEARANCE TO BUY POLYUS GOLD SHARES, REGULATOR TO SAY NO

The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) is about to turn down a request by the VTB bank to buy shares in No. 1 Russian gold producer Polyus Gold, Alexei Ulyanov, the FAS official in charge of industry monitoring said at the Adam Smith Institute's CIS Metals Summit in Moscow. Ulyanov told Interfax that VTB wanted to buy up to 50 percent of the shares in Polyus Gold. He said the request would be rejected because VTB did not disclose its counter-parties in the transaction.
