From Material Things: Art and Arte fact in the 21st Century attracted a healthy mix of delegates. Absorbing and interpreting four themes, eight speakers, four chairs and eight panelists plus an evening reception with Vivienne Westwood, a plastic extruding machine and a lifelong knitting project, made for a heady mixture.The gathering was intelligently conceived: each section included a 'breakout session' in which delegates gathered in groups to pick up on issues raised. The result was to feel included in the debate and to open up both new concerns and diverse contacts.
