ALROSA TO START OVERHAULING SALES POLICY THIS YEAR

Alrosa will start to overhaul its sales policy this year, Sergei Vybornov, the Russian diamond monopoly's president, said at a meeting of company executives in Mirny, Yakutia, on March 29. "The program should be passed and launched in 2008. Our shareholders and objective reality demand this," Vybornov said in his report, the text of which has been posted on Alrosa's website. Alrosa, which mines a quarter of the world's diamonds, reduced the number of its clients in March, discontinuing operations with companies that front for major concerns and a host of small buyers. The clients that have been dropped are mainly those that buy less than 1 million dollars worth of uncut diamonds a month.
