ZIJIN MINING BUYS TAJIKISTAN GOLD MINE FOR 55.1 MILLION DOLLARS

SHANGHAI. (Interfax) - Hong Kong-listed Zijin Mining Group Co. Ltd., one of China's largest gold miners has inked an agreement to buy Avocet Mining PLC's gold mine in Tajikistan for 55.1 million dollars, according to a Zijin Alining announcement on June 29. Commonwealth & British Minerals (UK) Ltd., an Avocet subsidiary company, which currently holds a 75 percent stake in the Zeravshan gold mine project in Tajikistan. The Zeravshan gold mine is located in northwestern Tajikistan and has been the largest gold mining operation in the country since it commenced production in 1996, with total production having reached nearly 700,000 ounces (19.84 tons) of gold to date.
