NORILSK NICKEL POSTS Q1 LOSSES ON SHARE CANCELLATION

Norilsk Nickel closed the first quarter of 2006 with net losses of 22.634 billion rubles audited to Russian standards, the Arctic mining and smelting giant said on May 2. The company had net profit of 15.338 billion rubles in the first quarter of 2005 and 18.73 billion rubles in the fourth quarter of 2005. It attributed the losses of the first quarter of 2006 to the cancellation of some of its shares.
