Kazakhstan may become the leading uranium producer in the world in 2009 if the output hits 11,900 tonnes, Kazatomprom President Mukhtar Dzhakishev said at a press conference on February 3. "If we produce 11,900 tonnes of uranium, it will certainly bring us on top of uranium production in the world," he said. He specified that this is an exact figure that reflects company's production projections for the next year and could be adjusted either way depending on demand.
