The Evraz group's iron ore mining unit Vysokogorsky GOK (VGOK) has reduced iron ore production nearly a third as the result of a December 23 blast at its Yestyuninskaya mine, which killed nine people, however it has enough stockpiled ore to honor delivery contracts. "Yestyuninskaya produces about 1 million tonnes of iron ore per year, or just under a third of VGOK's entire output. It has stockpiled about 80,000 tonnes, or a month's output for Yestunininskaya. So no contractual obligations will be broken, and production at the steel mills will carry on as normal," Evraz vice president for public relations, Alexei Agureyev, told Interfax.
