SEVERSTAL HALVES Q4 STEEL OUTPUT TO 3.143 MILLION TONNES

Severstal slashed steel production 48 percent in the fourth quarter of 2008 compared with the third quarter to 3.143 million tonnes, the company said on February 11. Steel production grew in the full year, by 10 percent to 19.2 million tonnes. Severstal revised its 2008 steel production forecast down 14 percent in November to 19.7 million tonnes.
