United Company RUSAL (UC RUSAL) will refinance a 4.5 billion dollars loan it received from Western banks in spring 2008 with a loan it is raising from VEB, the Russian development bank. RUSAL has notified the Western banks, which originally lent RUSAL the money in order to finance acquisition of a blocking stake in MMC Norilsk Nickel. "The company sent notification to the banks in the syndicate six hours ago that it has reached agreement with VEB on a loan of 4.5 billion dollars," a source in banking circles told Interfax on October 29.
