A new market is being created for DNA chips, analytical microsystems consisting of thousands of DNA chains deposited on a glass or silicon substrate. The DNA on the chip is used to interrogate target sequences in the sample under analysis. The technique is finding many applications in medicine, pharmacology, the food industry and the military.
