Anthropological status of communication-capable devices

There have always been communication-capable devices in one form or another. An anthropological approach can help to guide innovation design practice through studies into the status of such objects and the way people interact with them. Portable belongings can be expected to extend well beyond the telephone, to cover much broader habitat and habit aspects. Successful buy-in by humans requires the communication-capable device to adapt to the human being and the human body. But since a sense of strangeness will inevitably persist, the device must enter a cooperation contract with its user.
