KAZAKHSTAN PLANNING SULFUR PROCESSING PLANTS TO BOOST URANIUM PRODUCTION

Kazakhstan's state nuclear company Kazatomprom is planning to build several sulfur processing plants in the republic to enable a boost uranium production, director of the Petrochemical Department from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Raushan Sarmurzina said on July 9. Kazatomprom's plans to boost uranium production mean it will need sulfuric acid for in-situ leaching at the uranium deposits. Therefore, there are plans to build two or three sulfuric acid plants in Kyzylorda region and in the town of Stepnogorsk, Sarmurzina said on the sidelines of a Kazakh-Canadian business forum discussing sulfur utilization problems in Astana.
