摘要

The article proposes a simple method for estimating the characteristics of the upper sedimentary layer on the seafloor. The method uses actual data acquired during a seismic survey using a multi-component sensor. The article begins by summarizing the theory describing wave propagation across a fluid/sediment boundary and gives the theoretical expressions for each component measured at the sensor. The article continues with an analysis concentrating on the direct and first multiple signals using SVD filtering to isolate these two components. A comparison of the measured data with the theoretical expressions is used to characterize the seabed. The results indicate the pretence of sediments saturated with water that behave almost identically to a fluid with a compression wave velocity slightly higher than that of water and a low or zero shear wave velocity.
