The article presents preliminary results of abrasive wear tests on tool steels used to make drop forging dies. Tests were conducted on a testing station built at the Metal Forming Institute. The essence of the applied method was the capability of conducting the experiment in conditions of isolated abrasive wear at high temperatures. The working conditions of the testing device were adjusted so that they would correspond to the working conditions of forging tools, that is: high temperature, unit pressures inducing steel plastification and abrasive wear at a rate nearing the rate of charge deformation during the forging process.
