Regularities in Aluminum and Indium Chemisorption on Chelating Polymeric Sorbents

The complexing properties of chelating polymeric sorbents (CPSs)-substituted (polystyrene) azopyrocatechols-are studied. With the goal of elucidating the effect of the structure and acidity of the functional groups of the sorbents on the parameters of Al~(3+) and In~(3+) chemisorption, correlations between the pK'_(OH) of the functional groups of the CPSs, on one band, and the pH50 of chelation and the stability constants log K_(st) of the polychelates, on the other, are found. These correlations enable the prediction of the physical and chemical parameters of sorbents and of metal sorption with the purpose of isolating and concentrating trace aluminum and indium from objects of various origins.
