It is common knowledge that the higher than usual risk of capital investments in the mining industry induces investment institutions to continuously enhance the requirements to the re-liability of geological information on the subsoil. Underestimation of the reliability assessment role can bring about dramatic technical errors and financial losses. Brand new "Classification of reserves and expected resources of solid mineral deposits" is to be implemented in Russia from January 1, 2008. The division of reserves based on the degree of their reliability adopted in it agrees on the whole with the known JORC system, however is more itemized. The JORC 《meas-ured resources》 correspond to A and B categories of reserves in Russia, the 《indicated resources》 correspond to the C_1 category, while the 《inferred resources》 match the C_2 category. Unlike the previous one the new "Classification..." has a requirement of that when qualifying the reserves based on the extent of their exploration qualitative and probabilistic assessments should apply.
