Homecare co-ops viewed as one answer to long-term care needs in rural America

The state of efforts to organize more homecare cooperatives was the focus of a day-long forum at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., in March, sponsored by the Cooperative Development Foundation. Homecare worker co-ops can play a significantrole in helping to keep more seniors and people with disabilities in their homes, rather than in nursing homes or institutions. Studies show that clients usually remain healthier and are happier when they can stay in their homes.
