There are now eleven annual potters markets in the UK. These have evolved during the past ten years and are spread geographically from the south west of England through Wales to Scotland. The consensus among the potters who exhibit their work and the public who visit them is that when they are well planned and organized they can be both profitable and enjoyable. They are not without critics however and in her letter Janet has focussed on the way that potters are chosen to take part. The procedure for allocating space at the eleven existing markets ranges from acceptance on a 'first come' basis to a slide selection by a panel appointed by the organizers.
