Separation of Cu(II) from Water by Flotation with Hydroxyaromatic Chelating Collectors

摘要

Investigation results of some chelating reagents of hydroxyaromatic type, that do not present the characteristics of usual collectors, for Cu(II) separation from aqueous diluted model systems by flotation method are presented in this paper. The influence of main factors on flotation process, such as solution pH, colligand concentration, molar ratio C_(chelating agent): C_(Cu(II)) air flow and flotation time has been investigated in order to obtain the best separation efficiency. The mechanism of chelating collector action has been discussed, based on the study of the Cu(II) - collectors interaction by IR and UV-VIS spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and elemental chemical analysis. The obtained results have shown that these hydroxyaromatic collectors possess many advantages such as excellent chelating ability due to the multiple polar groups and by virtue of their hydrophobic properties, leading to Cu(II) removal with maximum separation efficiency.
