Some Considerations on the Environmental Impact of Highway Traffic

The present paper analyses a few aspects of the role of the Italian A22 highway (the Brenner highway) concerning the evolution of its importance at international level, the difference in terms of vehicle park, when compared with the local park of the crossed territories, the relevance of the engine evolution in the transport sector. Data from the iMonitraf European project and from the Italian ACI database are used. The above analysis is aimed to understand the importance of updating the modelling approach used in the ALPNAP European project.
