Recently, multifunctional imported metal-cutting machines have been widely adopted in Russia. Since such machines are very expensive (5-15 million rub., as a rule), their efficient use is of great importance. At present, by tradition, the efficiency is assessed on the basis of familiar economic indices (such as the reduction in production costs and the time to recoup the capital outlay) and organizational indices (in particular, the load coefficient). At the same time, these characteristics do not always permit adequate determination of the machine-tool efficiency, since they do not evaluate how fully its capabilities are utilized. Consequently, machine tools capable of producing very complex parts may be used to manufacture relatively simple parts.
