European car manufacturing in trouble

Car making in Europe is a bit of a paradox just now. While many luxury brands like BMW and Jaguar/Land Rover are enjoying strong sales growth, Europe's mid-market players are shutting plants, cutting back production and, in one or two cases, pleading for State aid to stay afloat. What is more, there is no sign that things will improve for them anytime soon. The Continent's demand for cars has shrunk by 3 million units since 2007.
