The winner of this year's ACS Rubber Division's Sparks-Thomas award for younger scientists said those considering science as a career could learn a lot from the two people for whom the award is named. During his address at the recent Rubber Division spring meeting in Akron, award recipient Vassilios Galiatsatos of Lyondell Chemical Co. paid homage to William J. Sparks and Robert; M. Thomas, two of the chemists from Exxon who helped develop butyl rubber.
