This conference continues a series of eight previous conferences primarily on health effects of Radium and Thorotrast,which took place in Alta,Utah(1974),Neuherberg(1976),Lisbon(1977),Lake Geneva,Wisconsin(1981),Neuherberg(1984),Bethesda,Maryland(1988),Heidelberg(1994),and Tokyo(1999).The ninth conference will address additional subjects related to the toxicity of alpha-emitting radionuclides in man,including molecular and epidemiological studies,and measurement as well as bioassay methods that are relevant for human populations.It will also cover those studies that are associated with naturally occurring radionuclides,with the sites of environmental contamination by a-emitting radionuclides,and with health effects due to the application of depleted uranium.Another important issue will include some novel aspects in radionuclide therapy using a-emitters.Further information is available at www.gsf.de/ heir.
