Cardiac Arrest following Pneumonectomy

A 17-year-old male was referred to our hospital with massive hemoptysis documented by a drop in hemoglobin concentration from 12 to 7 g/dl within 24 h. He was diagnosed with smear-positive pulmonary tuberculosis soon after admission and treatment for pulmonary tuberculosis was commenced. The following day he successfully underwent bronchial artery embolization for hemoptysis continuing despite medical therapy On the third day after admission he experienced further life-threatening hemoptysis and an urgent left pneumonectomy was performed.
