Long-shaft forceps for membrane peeling in highly myopic eyes

Internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling plays a critical role in the treatment of myopic retinopa-thy.1'2 However, because of retinal thinning and friability in these patients, ILM removal is technically challenging.3 Complications such as retinal iatro-genic damage could develop easily while initially elevating or regrasping the ILM with unmatched intraocular forceps. As a consequence, it is necessary to preoperatively select vitreous forceps of suitable lengths for use in patients with myopic reti-nopathy. For ILM removal in myopic eyes with different axial lengths, the currently used forceps are somewhat limited. To overcome this, we introduced 3 different prototypical long-shaft forceps with tip lengths that were 3, 5, and 7 mm longer to facilitate ELM peeling in myopic eyes.
