Surgical repair of macular fold after vitrectomy for bullous rhegmatogenous retinal detachment

Retinal fold is a known rare complication after surgical repair of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment.1"3 If the fold involves the macula, patients often experience visual distortion, and visual function can be severely impaired. Although some retinal folds have been shown to regress spontaneously over time, surgical repair is usually warranted when the macula is involved.3'4 We present a case of retinal fold that occurred after vitrectomy for subretinal gas and retinal detachment after pneumatic retinopexy. The retinal fold resolved after repeat vitrectomy with creation of a subretinal bleb, air-fluid exchange, and postoperative prone positioning.
