摘要

Posterior vitreous detachment is the most important age-related change in the human vitreous gel. It is defined as a separation between the posterior vitreous cortex and the internal limiting membrane. Posterior vitreous detachment results from two progressive age-related vitreous alterations: vitreous liquefaction and weakening of the vitreoretinal adhesion. Its importance derives from the fact that it may induce several potentially serious pathologic events at the vitreoretinal interface. Understanding the evolution and complications of early-stage PVD is increasingly relevant in the emerging era of pharmacologic vitreolysis.
