Elegant solution for nonsterile tube handling in 'vitreous trap' preparation.

We were pleasantly surprised by the Letter to Editor of Dr. Moshfeghi, referring to the article by Dr. Malinowski "The vitreous trap: a simple, surgeon-controlled technique for obtaining undiluted vitreous and subretinal specimens during pars plana vitrec-tomy." We were too positively impressed by the technique, and we successfully tested it to obtain undiluted vitreous specimens for both lymphoma and endoph-thalmitis laboratory diagnosis. We encountered the same problem of Dr. Moshfeghi while preparing the device: the Vacutainer collection tubes (instead of the needles and of the male connector) were not sterile. We also appreciated Dr. Malinowski's clarification about the sterilizing procedure.
