A new syringe adaptor for intravitreal injection of premature eye

Recently, retinopathy of prematurity has become one of the main therapeutic targets of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor drugs along with age-related macular degeneration, vein occlusion, and diabetic retinopathy. It has been reported that some of the serious ocular adverse events of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor therapy such as cataract, vitreous hemorrhage, and retinal detachment occurs during inravitreal injection. Especially, when injecting anti-vascular endothelial growth factor drugs into the premature eye, special attention is needed to avoid these injection-related complications because the volume proportion of the lens to the premature eye is greater than that of the lens to the adult eye and the area of the pars plana in the premature eye is narrower than that of the adult eye. If injection was done with a conventional syringe, the hand position becomes unstable as shown in Figure 1, A and B and that makes it difficult to do an injection in a precise and consistent manner.
