There has been considerable interest in recent years in organic-inorganic hybrid materials, which combine the benefits of both systems. The structures and performance of these materials depend heavily on the particle size of the inorganic phase, the uniformity of distribution of the inorganic phase and the interfacial forces between the two phases. The introduction reviews recent developments of UV curable organic-inorganic hybrid materials prepared by the sol-gel reaction.
