摘要

Phase formation is studied in ceramic precursors of final composition 9CaO-91ZrO_2with temperature, prepared by two different methods, i.e., a mechanical ceramic method and sol-gel synthesis followed by lyophilic drying. It is shown that sol-gel synthesis followed by lyophilic drying is preferable to the synthesis method used normally. Phase formation with temperature occurs in accordance with an empirical Ostwald rule of stages. Use of sol-gel synthesis facilitates formation of metastable fluorite-like solid solution at a temperature lower than that following from the CaO-ZrO_2 phase equilibrium diagram.
