摘要

Refractory materials, especially refractory castables, designed for various lining applications in the foundry industry are undergoing continuous evolution in concept and function. It is well known that refractory castables containing carbon and based on alumina and alumina raw materials, e.g. ULCC, are most effective against slag infiltration due to their low carbon wettability, for example, when installed in the slag dominated zones of cupolas. But this effect is countered by high temperature oxidation of carbon (decarburization). The present paper signals some new approaches in a recent refractory bonding system where high temperature carbon protection properties are based on alumosilicate raw materials.
