Colombia's Ministry of Environment has launched an initiative to recycle discarded electronic equipment, teaming up with global brands Dell, Nokia, Motorola, Avantel and Sony as part of a bid reduce the environmental impact of landfilled electronics. Under the heading 'Project Environment', manufacturers will install drop-off points from where waste electronic equipment will be sent to Lito SA - a specialist recycler which will return extracted materials back to the manufacturer. 'The Ministry has started three years ago to promote proper management of waste electrical and electronic equipment,' notes Alejandra Sanchez, the country's Deputy Minister for Environment.
