Siemens Transportation Systems (TS) has received an order from the Austrian Federal Railway (OBB) for 23 seven-unit Railjet 230km/h trains in a contract worth Euro 244 million. Included in the agreement is an option for a further 40, valued at Euro 424 million. Based on Siemens' tried-and-tested Intercity vehicles, the overall concept and technical design of the interiors, including fittings and equipment, has yet to be finalised, but will be carried out by the OEM. With a train length of 205m, there will be between 440-469 seats across the Premium, Business and Economy classes, with 350 of those in Economy. For passengers with reduced mobility, the train will be fitted with an escalator to aid access, and specially provided toilets. Each Railjet has spaces for three wheelchairs, as well as sockets for their batteries.
