Non-ballasted track forms in the UK

Non-ballasted track forms or concrete slab track has been in use throughout the world for over 50 years. Japan and Germany in particular have widespread successful application of concrete track forms including high speed lines. The UK has yet to see installation of significant continuous lengths of slab track. Britpave, a non-for-profit trade association of the UK construction industry, has started a series of technical guidance notes exploring the implications of slab track and building a commercial case to justify selection of track form for new projects.
