How to obtain images from picture archiving and communication systems and ready them for publication.

William Albert Allard was a photographer, born in 1937. His quote regarding photographs holds true for the imaging literature. We use images to demonstrate the methods and results of our studies. Without these images, Radiology articles would seem bland. A good image in a good article potentially increases reader interest and the knowledge that can be gained by the reader. Therefore, as journal editors, we try to obtain the best images to illustrate the concepts presented in the manuscripts we publish. In the past, when images were submitted for publication in imaging journals, glossy analog photographs were submitted and were reproduced for print. Size requirements were set at 5X7 inches for submission. Many academic radiology departments had expertise with image reproduction to obtain the highest quality images for publication.
