Avian flu incidences waning? Fewer wild birds died from avian flu in the first half of 2007 than in recent years, which the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) has taken as a positive sign that the worldwide epidemic may be waning. China's beefindustry set to flourish: China is heading for a significant increase in beef production over the coming years as consumption rises and the industry modernises. But the rapid westernisation of China's eating habits also offers strong prospects for beefexporters. Brazilian beef exports recovering strongly: A near doubling of sales to Russia has helped lift Brazilian beef exports in the first four months of this year by around 50% as compared with Jan-April 2006. Sales to the EU were up by just 3%, incorporating about 15% of total Brazilian exports. EU-Russian beef trade row continues: The European Commission has promised that it will keep up the political pressure on Russia as Moscow still shows no sign of lifting its ban on Polish beef imports.
