R.T.s are sometimes surprised to learn that ARRT has an examination covering limited radiography. The ARRT announced its willingness to enter into agreements with states to administer exams covering radiography of the chest or extremities to state-approved examinees beginning in 1985. The announcement culminated a 3-year project in which representatives from licensing states participated in various meetings and surveys. The number of limited scope categories subsequently expanded to include several other anatomic areas. This article explains why the ARRT developed this exam and how it is administered.
