CT Crucial in SARS Diagnosis

Computed tomography (CT) scans of the chest are an invaluable aid in diagnosing severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), according to a team of Hong Kong physicians. Their research, published in the August issue of Radiology, analyzed CT scans of 73 patients with signs and symptoms suggestive of SARS. The scans revealed several common diagnostic features, including ground-glass opacities that tended to appear in the lower and peripheral areas of the lungs.
