Best practices in digital radiography.

Radiographers assume an extensive role in ensuring the radiation safety of patients. The American College of Radiology (ACR) white paper on radiation dose in medicine placed final responsibility on radiographers for additional action before radiation exposure. Further, the paper stated that "technologists are responsible for limiting radiation exposure to patients by ensuring that proper procedures and techniques are followed...."Radiographers who perform digital radiography examinations must recognize their responsibility in understanding how to optimize digital images while minimizing radiation dose to patients. As the experts of the radiology team on exposure technique, radiographers should be proactive in remaining up-to-date on radiation protection and new technologies.
