Report recommends changes for Ontario recycling facilities

Toronto, ON- Waste Diversion Ontario has released a report on the current capacity of blue box material recycling facilities (MRFs), with recommendations for future management. Prepared by RIS International Ltd., the report is qualified in that some information was difficult to assemble because of proprietary concerns among the private sector facilities. The report identifies, for 2004, 64 MRFs in existence in Ontario, with 59 actively involved in processing. For 2005, available MRFs are increasing to 66, while processing MRFs will decrease to 56. The private sector owns 55 percent of the facilities.
