Early detection combined with effective treatment administered promptly is core to lameness control programmes in dairy herds. Yet the time and discipline involved with screening herds for treatment is a challenge for any herd manager. Various technologies have the potential to assist with lameness or lesion detection, and this article reviews the evidence on a range of systems, some of which are already commercially available.
