Combining ability analysis was undertaken for crude protein and in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD) in Guinea grass (Panicum maximum Jacq.) over two years, 1988 and 1989. Mean squares only due to general combining ability (gca) were significant(P<0.01) during both the years for crude protein. Likewise, mean squares due to gca was significant (P<0.01) only during 1988 for IVDMD. This indicated that only additive variance was involved in the inheritance of both the traits. Besides, good generd combiners were also identified for these traits. Gca was positively correlated with the parental means for crude protein and IVDMD in both the years.
