SPECIES COMPOSITION AND LIFE FORMS OF THE GRAZING LANDS AT BHAVNAGAR

The species composition and life forms of the grazing lands of Bhavnagar were studied taking three protected and three unprotected sites. Total 40 species were present in the study sites. The major life form class was found therophytic flora. Maximumdensity of individual species was observed in August, Most of the species perished by the end of the winter season. Dichanthium annulatum Forsk and Cynodon dactylon L. were found contributing much to the total density. Dominance was found directly related to productivity but diversity enhanced the productivity under protected conditions.
