A pendula Edgew, popularly known as kardhai, belongs to family combretaceae. The occurrence, importance and uses have been reported by several authors (Singh, 1982; Hocking, 1993; and Gupta, 1993). However, seed germination percentage of this species is very low 2-9 percent (Mathur, 1956) due to production of unfertile seed i.e. excessive abortion or failure of fertilization (Saxena, 1989). Its seedling growth is also very slow. These problems can be overcome if cheap and feasible vegetative propagation techniques are standardized in this species. The main advantage of the vegetative propagation is that selected individuals of species can be multiplied into large number of plants with a high degree of homogeneity. Vegetative propagation is more useful when trees are producing inviable seeds (Dwivedi, 1992). The literature regarding vegetative propagation of A. pendula is meager. Keeping in view the importance of vegetative propagation of this species, the present investigation for the standardization of vegetative propagation through stem cuttings was undertaken.
