摘要

Different land uses/land covers in Uttarakhand, India were digitized by geographical information systems (GIS) environment by using visual interpretation through digital satellite data. It was observed that the agricultural area had reduced from 66.71 to 32.75% over a period of 42 years. At the same time, 13.51% area was occupied by agroforestry in 2002 while 12% comprise dense shrublands. Results also revealed that the forest area increased by approximately 100% including both dense and moderately dense forest areas.
