Growth and production of silvipastoral components under semi-arid conditions

Our natural grasslands and dry deciduous forests have low productivity due to poor soil conditions, scanty and erratic rainfall and low density of leguminous species. Moreover, due to heavy animals pressure the pasture lands became unproductive and vegetation disappeared very soon and as a result of which the grazing inside forest is increasingly banned. Secondly due to frequent biotic influence and fast deforestation, the gap between supply and demand for fuel, food and fodder has increased. Introduction of trees/woody shrub species in such situations may help in improving the availability of forage, fuel wood and timber.
